Genetti Inn & Suites...Another GRAND Re-Opening

For several generations, the Genetti family has been involved in the hotel, conference and hospitality business in multiple locations throughout Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania.  Through the years they have developed a fine reputation for high quality service and maintaining a loyal and long-term customer base.  This base has become accustomed to the professional, yet highly personalized service offered through all the Genetti facilities.

On Thursday March 1, 2007, disaster struck the Genetti Inn & Suites in Hazleton, Pa.  A large fire destroyed several offices that created significant collateral damage (ie., soot, smoke, odor) to adjacent areas  including two (2) large banquet kitchens and reception rooms, and conference center.  One of owner Bill Genetti’s first calls for assistance was an important one; Bill Genetti contacted First General Services of NE Pa.

Responding to this urgent appeal for help, First General Services immediately mobilized its manpower, specialty equipment and expertise to respond to the emergency.  Under the long-term professional expertise of Certified Restorer and Company owner, John C. Sobeck, First General Services initiated a coordinated response bringing all of its capabilities to bear on the situation.

Over the course of the next six (6) days, First General Services replaced in excess of 10,000 square feet of suspended ceiling tiles, cleaned 10,000 square feet of carpeting, and over 20,000 square feet of wall coverings and draperies.  Two (2) banquet kitchens were essentially cleaned top to bottom, including 800-900 settings of silver and dinner- ware, 600 chairs and 50 tables.

Areas directly affected by the fire were also secured and isolated to prevent further damage by the winter elements.  This included the removal of 15” of snow and ice, shoring up a roof area span of approximately 50 linear feet and the demo of over 10 rooms to the studs.  These areas continue to receive First General Services professional attention and continue to be repaired.

Total “lost time” amounted to only one lost weekend of events, culminating with the Grand Re-opening on Saturday March 10, 2007.  This interruption caused only short-term loss of business and assisted in maintaining the Genetti reputation for high quality accommodations and excellent service.

The professional, expert and timely response of First General Services allowed for ... Another Grand Re-opening.

Feature Article...

Ice Dam Season

An ice dam can form on almost any roof after a substantial snowfall. The interior heat of a structure causes snowmelt: the melted snow accumulates and later freezes to form an ice dam - acting like a miniature glacier along the eaves.

As the ice dam grows larger, it forms a barrier which prevents water from draining. As more snow melts, water flows down the pitch of the roof and backs up behind the ice dam, gradually forcing its way under the shingles and through the roof deck into the structure.

The effects can range from stained walls and ceilings to severe water damage in multiple rooms. During a single winter, ice dams can easily cost thousands of dollars in a family home, condominium, apartment building or commercial structure, and unless the leakage problem is corrected, the damage will happen again and again.

Ice dams should only be removed to prevent damage to the home. If your roof is not leaking or in danger of collapsing, then the dam need not be removed.

Many contracting companies, such as First General Services, has experience in the removal of ice dams - and although experienced and careful, damage to the roof and/or gutters may occur during the process.
