Firemen and First General Respond to Fresno Fire

On Tuesday August 1, 2006, at 5:00 AM, firemen responded to a significant kitchen fire at Fresno’s Restaurant in Dickson City Pa.  While the fire was confined primarily to the kitchen area, the entire restaurant and bar sustained smoke, water and resulting odor problems.

At approximately 9:00 AM, John Gazda, the owner of Fresno’s, contacted First General Services requesting assistance in getting his business open as soon as possible.  Concerned that other restoration companies had either not responded to his plea, or had answered with a three to six month timetable for a probable return to operation, Mr. Gazda enlisted First General Services.  We responded that same day to initiate the resumption of service to Mr. Gazda’s clientele that he feared might be in for a long-term interruption.

Remarkably, three weeks and one day later Mr. Gazda’s beloved Fresno’s Restaurant was open for business honoring a long-standing reservation for a party of seventy-five people.  The immediate and concentrated effort to restore Fresno’s included the use of our new Soda Blasting, Air Duct Cleaning, and Steam Cleaning equipment to complement our other more established restoration services.

With as tight a timeframe as we faced, Fresno’s benefited from First General’s “quick strike” capability, organization skills, our years of restoration experience and the readily available new services and equipment.  The bottom line...

Fresno’s didn’t suffer at the bottom line.

First General Staff Certified in Electronics Cleaning Techniques

First General Services of NE Pa. recently hosted a special hands-on training in Electronics Cleaning conducted by professional staff of Restoration Alliance.  Mr. Rich Malanchak, with over twenty (20) years of industry experience, provided a thorough classroom type overview of the benefits to be derived and the expectations to be met through this application.

Following the classroom presentation, Mr. Malanchak conducted a lengthy demonstration of the actual cleaning techniques and procedures in First General Services’ newly constructed electronics cleaning facility, utilizing the Company’s recently purchased Odell Electronics Cleaning Equipment.

Topics addressed in addition to the hands-on demonstration included safety guidelines, types of contamination, benefits of cleaning versus replacing electronics, supplies and tools to be utilized, importance of staging area and stabilization, drying and deodorization, quality control, packaging and delivery, pack-out and transportation and evaluation.

A total of eleven (11) FGS’ staff successfully completed the offering, attained Certified standing and are prepared to address the very specialized need for electronics cleaning throughout our service area.  Initial referral agreements are being finalized with other fire and water restoration companies not possessing this capability and specialized cleaning equipment.

The Certification allows administrative and cleaning staff to address various aspects of cleaning computer equipment, televisions, radios, DVD’s, VCR’s, fax and copy machines, cash registers, automotive analyzers, etc., resulting in greater savings to owners and insurers.  Certification assures insurers of the quality of care to be assigned to electronic equipment in the restoration process.
