Experiencing A Fire: A Homeowner's Personal Thoughts
On
December 27, 2006, First General responded to an emergency
board-up call in Wilkes-Barre at 11:30 p.m. It was the home of Mrs. June Compton.
I
had the honor of meeting Mrs. Compton a few days later. With FGS
Estimator Joe Simon and Content Specialist Diane
Wright on my one side, and Mrs. Compton on the other, we
walked through the ruins of her home.
Generally
when a person experiences a traumatic loss such as this, their
emotional state is quite unstable considering the
circumstances. Mrs. Compton was an exception to the rule.
Even
though virtually everything in her home was unrecognizable,
she would stop, smile and frequently express her gratitude
towards the most important things in her life: her family,
friends and grandchildren. "At least no one was hurt" and "Thank
God my grandchildren were not here," "a
home can be replaced, but the people in it cannot,
were common words coming from her mouth.
Apparently,
we at FGS were not the only ones who took a liking to Mrs.
Compton. During
the night of the fire, a total of four neighbors, at
different times, broke into the Compton residence for fear
that she was sleeping inside.
One team climbed up and broke through her bedroom
window, while the other team broke in the front door.
All four men crawled through the smoke and flames
trying to locate their beloved neighbor while other neighbors
and children stood by with tears of compassion.
There was a sigh of relief when it was discovered that
Mrs. Compton was not at home, but was in fact visiting her
daughter in Maryland.
FGS
crews were contracted by Mrs. Compton to handle all repairs,
reconstruction and cleaning. Even when production slowed down,
due to an overload of other emergency calls, she remained
positive. In the
end, Mrs. Compton could not say enough about our workmanship
and commitment. "When
the crews were here, they started a project, and would finish
that project efficiently & precisely."
Further, "I couldn't be happier with how
things turned out" and "First
General was willing to do whatever possible to make me happy,
even when I wasn't."
On
behalf of the entire FGS team, it was an honor and a pleasure
to have worked for Mrs. June Compton.
She has proven herself to be a truly remarkable woman
facing an almost insurmountable taskrebuilding a home.

Joke
of the Day...
-
If you
love something, set it free.
If it comes back, it was and always will be yours.
If it never returns, it was never yours to begin with.
If, however, it just sits in your living room,
Messes up your stuff,
Eats your food,
Uses your telephone,
Takes your money, and never appears to have noticed that
you actually set it free in the first place,
You either married it or gave birth to it!
